Parmanu: The Story Of Pokhran (2018)
This John Abraham-starrer tells the story of the days leading up to the event that would put India on the nuclear power map. Parmanu is the tale of India’s very first nuclear test in 1998, which took place on a barren piece of land in Pokhran, a village in the state of Rajasthan. Their main antagonist in the movie is the American satellite surveillance system, which maps every move of the Indian defense organizations from space. Many of the thrill induced moments of the film involve the core team behind the test attempting to make themselves invisible to the eyes of the American satellites. The film has an IMDb rating of 7.6/10.
Omerta (2018)
This Hansal Mehta directorial is a subtle character study of one of the most feared real-life extremists on Earth, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh. Rajkummar Rao can be seen essaying the infamous terrorist in a movie that explores Sheikh’s early years, his arms training at various fringe group camps, and then the headline-making murder of an American journalist. Vicky Kaushal frontlines this film as Major Vihan Shergill, a character based on a real-life Indian army colonel, Kapil Yadav. The film tracks the planning process, the personal lives of the main characters, and the final execution of the strike that shook the nation. This movie became a surprise hit, ending its run at the Indian box office with a figure close to ₹250 crore.
The Kashmir Files (2022)
Vivek Agnihotri’s 2022 surprise blockbuster is a feature based on the infamous Kashmiri Pandit Exodus in the early 1990s. It takes a look at the atrocities endured by the members of the committee, the number of lives that were lost to the genocide, and the eventual abolishment of Article 370.
